About This Spot
The first thing that struck me in Nagoro was the uncanny quiet of a village that has been overtaken by its own art. Walking down the narrow lanes, I felt like Iโd stepped into a living postcard: lifeโsize scarecrows lined every corner, each one meticulously dressed in vintage coats, hats, and even a few with little umbrellas. The old school building, now a shrine of straw figures, exuded an almost reverent hush, as if the remaining residents were still watching over their miniature guardians.
What makes Nagoro truly unforgettable isnโt just the sheer number of scarecrowsโthough 350 is impressiveโitโs how each one tells a story. Some wear faded sailor uniforms, others sport bright kimono fabrics, and a handful even carry tiny umbrellas, creating an almost whimsical parade of personalities. The village feels like a quiet homage to memory and creativity, inviting visitors to pause, photograph, and imagine the lives that once filled these streets.
